- Social Attraction
4ft. from the tester, tester kneels down and coaxes puppy to come by encouragingly and gently clapping hands and calling. Must coax puppy opposite direction from where it entered.
- Following
Tester stands up and slowly walks away encouraging puppy to follow. Make sure puppy sees you walk away. Lightly clapping and using verbal encouragement. Do not lean over puppy
- Restraint
The tester crouches down and gently rolls puppy on its back and holds it on its back for 30 seconds. Don’t apply too much pressure. The object is not to keep the puppy on its back. But, to test its response to being placed in that position.
- Social Dominance
Let the puppy stand or sit and gently stroke it from head to the back while you crouch beside it. See if it will lick your face. Avoid leaning or hovering over puppy. Have puppy at your side with both of you facing the same direction.
- Elevation Dominance
Cradle the puppy with both hands, supporting the puppy under the chest and gently lift its two feet off the ground and hold it there for 30 seconds.
- Retrieving
Crouch beside the puppy and attract its attention with a crumpled up piece of paper. When the puppy show some interest, throw the paper no more than four feet in front of the puppy. Encourage it to retrieve the paper.
- Touch Sensitivity
Locate the webbing of one of the puppy’s front paws. Press it lightly between the index finger and thumb. Gradually increase pressure while counting to ten and stop when the puppy pulls away or shows signs of discomfort.
- Sound Sensitivity
Place puppy in the center of the testing area. Have an assistant at the perimeter make a sharp noise, such as banging a metal spoon on the bottom of a metal pan.
- Sight Sensitivity
Place the puppy in the center of the testing area. Tie a string around a bath towel and jerk it across the floor, two feet away from the puppy.
- Stability
An umbrella is opened about five feet from the puppy and gently place on the ground.
