How to Tell if a Fuse is Blown Flashcards

1
Q

Q15: How can you visually inspect a fuse to see if it is blown?

A

A15: Remove the fuse using a fuse puller or tweezers and check the metal strip inside. If the strip is broken or burnt, the fuse is blown. Discoloration (e.g., blackened or cloudy) around the plastic housing is also a sign.

Q

Q16: How do you test a fuse with a multimeter to see if it is blown?

A

A16: Set the multimeter to check for continuity or resistance (ohms). Touch the probes to the metal terminals on either end of the fuse. If the multimeter beeps or shows a low resistance value (close to zero), the fuse is good. If it doesn’t beep or shows infinite resistance, the fuse is blown.
