How to read a data table Flashcards
Unit of Analysis Def.
What/Who is being surveyed. Eg: patients, country populations
Research Question Def.
What are you measuring
Unit of Scale Def.
What are the measured values
4 Types of measurement Scales
Nominal, Ordinal, Interval, Ratio
Nominal Function + Examples
Discrete. Classifies identities eg blood types/ sex. No.s attributed as place holders but have no numerical meaning (eg no rank order)
Ordinal Functions + Examples
Discrete. Used to rank (order) participant’s personal preferences or feelings eg pain scale. Numbers have numerical meaning
Interval Function and Examples
Continuos. Monitors differences in observed values eg date or a patient’s temperature. Absolute 0 doesn’t apply (eg at 0 degrees C a patient still produces heat energy)
Ratio Function and Examples
Finds ratios/fractions/ multiples in observed values. Eg length, weight, duration of activity. Absolute 0 applies
2 Types of Variables
Discrete, Continuos
