Conversion
Involves repressing anxiety and transferring it into nonorganic symptoms …e.g. loss of appetite, difficulty sleeping
Compensation
Individual makes up for a deficit by strongly emphasising another feature e.g. a person who is a poor communicator relies on organisational skills.
Denial
Avoiding emotional conflicts by refusing to consciously acknowledge anything that causes intolerable emotional pain.
Disassociation
Subjective numbness and less awareness of surroundings.
Displacement
Transferring emotions, ideas or wishes from a stressful situation to a less stressful situation. e.g. transferring anger to destroying a computer.
These are Ego-defence mechanism
A subconscious way to regulate emotional distresses.. provides psychological protection from anxiety and stress, indirectly.
Regression
Coping with a stressor through actions and behaviours associated with an earlier developmental period e.g. bed wetting.
Identification
Copying another behaviour pattern of another person
