How to make a brain Flashcards
What 4 bits are in adult brain?
Cerebral Hemispheres
Diencephalon
Brainstem
Cerebellum
How to make adult CNS?
Start w lil patch of ectoderm as a neural plate, which then forms a tube via neurulation from notochord. Caudal and rostral neuropore then close.
Then you get three swellings that form forebrain, midbrain and hindbrain (Prosencephalon, mesencephalon and rhombencephalon). Through differential growth cerebral hemispheres form C shape. Rhombencephalon develops into mesencephalon and myelencephalon
The cerebral hemispheres grow differentially in a C shape right. What poor fucks (major structures) do they drag along?
Corpus callosum, fornix, hippocampus, LV
Where is fornix?
Medial to superior LV
Where is hippocampus?
Medial to LV
Where is caudate nucleus?
Lateral to LV
Going in a horizontal plane, what structures will you encounter moving lateral to medial at level of 3rd ventricle?
Lateral sulcus, lentiform nucleus (putamen and globus pallidus), internal capsule, thalamus, 3rd ventricle
What makes up important basal nuclei?
Putamen, caudate nucleus, thalamus, amygdala (at end of caudate nucleus)
How does sensory grey matter in the brainstem move in development?
From dorsal to lareral
Where does the cerebellum develop?
In dorsal wall of neural tube
What forms dorsal root of spinal cord?
Ingrowth of neuritis from DRG
What forms ventral root of spinal cord?
Outgrowth from motor grey neurons
What stops everything being neurons?
Bone morphogenic protein BMP
Inhibited bt chordin etc
What does defective neural crest development result in?
Stuff like Waardenburg’s and Treacher Collins syndromes
