The Pattern of French Numbers
When counting in French, you will soon realize that there is a pattern. Once you are able to count to twenty in French, the rest is easy. In the 20’s, it is 20- whatever other number (1, 2, 3, etc.). In the 30’s, it is the same. And so on until the 60’s. In the 70’s, however, it is 60-10 for 70 (soixante-dix). You have to use soixante- whatever number you are on (11, 12, 13, etc.). There is no word for 70, so for 71, it is 60-11. This same concept is used for 90.
