How technology has changed production Flashcards
List 5 technologies used during production
1) Automation- equipment used in a factory is controlled by a computer to carry out mechanical process e.g. spray painting cars
2) Mechanisation- production is done by machines but operated by humans
3) CAD- computer aided design is a computer software that draws items being more designed quickly and allows them to be rotated to see the items from all sides instead of having to draw it several times
4) CAM- computer aided manufacture is where computers monitor the production process and control machines and robots on the factory floor
5) CIM- computer integrated manufacturing is the total integration of CAD and CAM; the computers that design the products are linked directly to the computers that aid the manufacturing process
List 3 technologies used in shops
1) EPOS- electronic point of sale is used at checkouts where the operator scans the barcode of each item individually
2) EFTPOS- electronic funds transfer point of sale is where an electronic cash register is connected to the retailer’s main computer and also banks and the banks information will be automatically read from the card
3) contactless payment
how has technology changed production methods and productivity
businesses can be ahead of competition, keeps costs falling, reduces prices and improves products manufactured
ads of new technology
- productivity is increase as more efficient production methods are used
- better quality products are produced by more accurate production methods
- quicker communication and reduced paperwork leads to increased profitability
- greater job satisfaction as boring jobs are done by machines
disads of new technology
- unemployment could rise due to employees being replaced by machines
- it is expensive to invest in new technology products and machinery
- new technology is always changing and may become outdated and will need replacement if the business is to remain competitive
