How Have You Worked To Promote Equality? Flashcards
Tell me about a time when you were able to help someone who was disabled
A Rhymetime customer who had signed up to my sessions got in touch and let me know that she that she has MS and that it affected her mobility and sight. She just wanted to let me know.
Task
Task: I had to make sure she felt comfortable in the sessions and that she could access what I was offering
Action
I asked her initially how I could help, and she said that she would be fine. We started on that premise but it became clear that she needed some assistance. I was able to modify the session so that there was less getting up and down, provide a chair for everyone in the group in case they needed it, assigned one place for her, close to the door, so she could find it and asked everyone in the group to be aware that her little girl was a particularly speedy crawler so we should all watch out for her
Result and reflection
Result: she enjoyed it and signed up to another term.
On reflection, I could have described the session to her in more detail in advance, so that she could have let me know what accommodations I could have made in advance. I also check in with her every now and then.
