A trend in the modern era has been increased specialization
Before 1900 it was just artillery, infantry and cavalry
Now there are many different roles such as radar surveillance operator, rocket systems gunner, tank gunner, infantry and many more
More technology meant more training and specialization
- specialized schools for snipers
- intelligence corps( gathering of intelligence only possible due to technical developments)
- specialized bomb disposal units

Changes in ware-fare so what it is, threats from it, why it’s so difficult to fight it, response to it

Increase of Guerrilla warefare from 1970’s
1. Insurgents avoid fighting conventional battles because they lack modern technology so they exploit their greater knowledge of the terrain
2. Hard to deal with due to suicide bombers and IED’s being a great threat
3. IEDs caused 63% of Brit+American deaths in the first 4 years in Iraq
5. Missiles have limited effect as they could cause high civilian casualties
6. One response was the development of Counter terrorism forces like the SAS, CTSFO and general counter terrorism training
