Q

What was the poem collection called and why?

A

“From the Portuguese”, it was her husband’s nickname for her. Many critics/readers thought they were translations and Browning possibly meant for them too seem that way instead of her own original poems as they might be more popular then. She was also a translator which gives backing to these theories.
