A

Stalin was presented in his cult of personality a bit differently to the real Stalin and so when party members saw the official Stalin who was a small, stooped man with grey hair they were surprised as they didn’t recognize him.

A

He had condemned Stalin’s use of personality cult in his secret speech of 1956. He also criticized its monstrous glorification of him .

A

It suited his style of leadership which involved him meeting personally with soviet citizens and visits to peasants on collective farms were good photo opportunities. It also represented his egotistical personality.

A

The Bolsheviks saw religion as a threat to the socialist ideology. They believed that the church provided an alternative ideology to that of Marxism. The Bolsheviks were atheists who dismissed religion as superstitious nonsense.

A

The Russian Orthodox Church as it posed a threat to the imposition of socialist values and government control. Had been tied closely to Tsar regime and so most of the population too its spiritual leaders seriously.
