during war between china and japan in 1930s, he organised anti-Japanese activities e.g. boycott of Japanese goods
after fall of sg, recruited as agent of force 136, linked up with local resistance organisations e.g. Malayan Communist Party (fight Japanese through guerilla tactics)
March 1944, captured and tortured for info
however, he didn’t reveal any info to his captors
29 June 1944 died in prison
Resistance (Elizabeth Choy)
worked as a canteen operator with husband at the Mental Hospital (present day IMH)
secretly delivered food, money, medicine and messages
imprisoned and tortured by Japanese at the Kempeitai headquarters on Stamford Road (close to 200 days)
after war, didn’t name torturers, said they acted that way due to war circumstances
awarded Order of the British Empire (OBE) and Order of the Star of Sarawak
