The EIC refused to offer aid and continued to collect taxes from the starving population by force.
What happened in 1813?
The British government allowed other companies to trade too.
How did the East India Company change in 1813?
Stopped trading altogether and simply helped the government run India and collect taxes.
How did the attitudes change of the British?
British men came to India to engage in many aspects of Indian life. Many learned local languages and even dressed in Indian dress.
Why would missionaries coming to India cause tension?
British missionaries wanted to replace Indian customs and religions. This was seen as disrespectful.

Why did the Sepoys refused to use the cartridges in the riffles?
The cartridge was covered in a mixture of pork and beef fat - the worst mixture for Hindus and Muslims.
Why did the Sepoys not feel loyal to the British?
The Sepoys found themselves fighting against fellow Indians. The British did not respect their culture or religions.
