How are landforms created Flashcards
How is a volcano created
A volcano forms when air pressure, temprature and other natural forces push magma out of a magma chamber until it erupts. When the lava touches the crust it immediately hardens and cools. This creates the cone shape of a volcano.
How is a delta formed
A delta forms when rivers empty their water and sediment into another body of water.
How is a plain formed
A plain is formed by three ways:
1. When ice and water erode they carry rock and dirt with, depositing it to a another area. As layer up on layer is formed plains form.
2. When lava flows across a piece of land and the minerals are broken up by erosion.
3. When rivers flow through a valley they run side to side eroding it to become flat.
How is a mountain formed
- Fold mountains are formed when two tectonic plates collide causing the crust to crumple and fold.
- Fault blocks are formed when some blocks of rock are forced upward and some downward.
- Volcanic mountains are formed when a volcano has erupted.
How is a valley formed
A valley is formed by tectonic plates pushing the ground down. It is also formed by erosion.
How is an island formed
An island is formed by volcanoes spewing lava. When the lava touches the ocean it turns in to rock.
How is a desert formed
A desert is formed when there isn’t a lot of precipitation for an extremely long time. Making the land arid and dry
