- Judge’s associate announces the arrival of the judge
- The Judge bows to the courtroom and the attendees bow
- Introduction of the prosecution and the defense
- The accused confirms not guilty plead

- The prosecution gives its opening address to the jury, outlining a summary of the case against the accused.
- The defence does the same

- The prosecution presents its case by calling on its witnesses to give evidence. These witnesses already know what to say as they are aware of the questions they are going to be asked. (examination-in-chief)
- The defence is now given the chance to cross-examine the prosecution’s witnesses. (cross-examination)
- Prosecution may re-examine the witness to clarify evidence that was given in cross-examination

What happens after examination-in-chief and cross-examination
A
After all the evidence is presented, the prosecution and the defense summarise their case through a final closing adresses to the jury

- The jury is instructed about the relevant matters of law relevant to the case and identifies factual issues that the jury will have to consider (jury charge)
- The jury leaves the courtroom, considers the evidence, and reaches a verdict beyond reasonable doubt
- The jury deliberates, returns with a verdict, and retires.
