Apley’s scratch
one hand reaching down the back of the neck the other reaching up the back reaching to the shoulder blades trying to touch hands together. (Repeating switching arms)
Apprehension (crank)
client laying on the table with arm abducted at 90’ angle laterally (hand up by the head) rotating the shoulder with hand on glenohumeral joint. (repeating other side)
Drop-up arm
abduct (raise) arm at 90’ and slowly lower the arm back down to your side.
Whipple
Crossing one arm over to the opposite shoulder while reaching out your arm while therapist resists movement, pressing down at the wrist.
Hawkins Kennedy
Therapist places hand on clients supinator tendon with clients arm resting over the therapists, the therapist pushes their hand down at 90’ with medial rotation of the shoulder.
Adson’s
Therapist locates the radial pulse and extends the clients arm. The client rotates and extends their head to the tested side then takes a deep breath and holds it.
Speeds
Client hold their arm out in supination while therapist resists movement on the wrist then arm switches to pronation with resistance on the wrist.
Yergason’s
Clients elbow flexed at 90’ stabilized against the body with forearm pronated. Therapist resists supination and lateral rotation while the client rotates their arm (therapist palpates the bicipital groove at the same time)
Empty can
The clients arms are abducted creating a “v” shape with thumbs angled down to the floor. Therapist applies resistance pressing down on the wrist.
Wrights
Therapist palpates radial pulse and client fully abducts arm (arm all the way up)
Halsteads maneuver
Therapist locates the radial pulse and extends the clients arm. The client rotates and extends their head to the side not being tested then takes a deep breath and holds it.
