Labour government in 2008 but scraped by conservatives in 2015
What is a garden city?
low density/green on the edge of cities (watered down version of eco town)
What are the positives of a garden city in regards to space?
lots of green space, space for development, public spaces
What are the positive of garden cities in regards to infrastructure and services?
good local facilities, affordable homes, leisure facilities, road, rail and bus improvements to link old and new communities to stop garden city gridlock
What are the positives of garden cities economically?
provision of nearby jobs, can create economic centres
What are the negatives of a garden city in regards to environment?
using up greenbelt land, stress on public transport leads to increased CO2 emissions and congestion
What are the negatives in regards to former settlements?
engulfing existing settlements, erasing identity, housing not always affordable, can just become commuter dormitories
