Code red and what’s the acronym?
Fire
– RACE
– Remove anyone from the immediate danger
– Activate the alarm and call code red
– Close all doors and windows to contain spread
– Extinguish the fire if safe to do so or evacuate to the Muster area
Code Blue?
Cardiac arrest
– Call “Code Blue” and give location
–give a emergency aid until assistance arrives
Code orange?
Mass casualties
–all staff return to work area
– Consult manager for further instructions
–designated response staff refer to your check lists
Code Green
Evacuation
–call code green and state area impacted
–evacuate using horizontal exits first if unsafe use vertical exits or stairways
– conduct a visual check of all rooms
– Take patient and staff list. Proceed to muster area
Code yellow?
Missing patient
Code Amber?
Missing child/infant
– Call code yellow for code Amber and give a description and last known location
– Search surrounding area
Code black?
Bomb threat
– Keep calm. Try to keep caller on the line.
–take notes. Obtain as much information as possible
– Alert coworker by passing a note
–coworker call code black and give location
Code white?
Aggression – call out for help – Make sure everyone is safe – Supervisor or coworker call cool white and given location –attempt to isolate person if safe
Code brown?
Hazardous spill
– Remove everyone from immediate exposure
–make sure everyone is safe and tell assistance arise
– Call code brown and given location
–cordon off area
Code gray?
System failure
