The standards are published annually online pertaining to both manufacturing and compounding.

Formulas and procedures that give a “recipe” of what should happen when the formulation is compounded.

What actually happened when the formulation was compounded.
LVP
Large volume parenteral solution
Ex: NS- sodium chloride solution
D5W- dextrose 5% in water solution
LR- lactate da ringers solution
SVP
Small volume parenteral solution
Can be an additive to LVP’s
Come as minibags, ampules, vials, or refilled syringes.
TPN
Total parental nutrition solution
Complexed admixtures to provide nutrition support
Amino acid solution for protein
Dextrose solution for carbohydrates
Laminar Flow Hoods
Vertical or horizontal air flow across a work area to provide an ultra clean work area by using a HEPA filter. Must maintain ISO Class 5 environment to prepare sterile parenteral preparations.
Biological safely cabinet
Recirculates air through vents and HEPA filters. Have a glass shield to protect personnel and the environment from contamination.
Clean Room
Must be ISO Class 7 and contain laminar flow hood’s or biological safety cabinets.
Parata Max
Automated dispensing system. It labels, fills, caps, sorts and stores prescriptions. Replenished by techs.
