Horse Colours Flashcards
Sorrel
A light brown colour with a mane and tail the same as the body or blonde.
Bay
A Brown colour with a black mane and tail, with black details like black on the muzzle, lower legs, around the ears.
Black
This horse is all black with a black mane and tail and sometimes it had a blue shine to it depending on the light.
Chestnut
It has the same brown colour as the Bay but has no black and it has a mane and tail a bit lighter then the coat colour.
Brown
They have a dark brown coat with black spots in its lower legs, mane and tail. It also has reddish brown points around its eyes or ears and on it’s muzzle.
Dun
Dun horses have a creamy golden colour with a black mane and tail. They also have a black bar that runs from their withers to about the middle of their back.
Buckskin
These horse have a creamy golden colour to a rich golden colour and they have black points in there mane and tail, along with around their ears and on their lower legs.
Palomino
They have a golden coat with a creamy white mane and tail.
Gray
A gray horse looks might sometimes but it is a really light gray and it has white or slightly coloured mane and tail.
Roan
They can have a Bay, Chestnut, or Black coat colour that matches their mane and tail. Most times they have white hairs mixed in with the mane and tail.
Appaloosa
They have a solid coat with white or lightly coloured spots scattered across the back end.
Pinto
A Pinto has large white patches over a coloured coat, the patches are bigger than an Appaloosa spots.
Dapple Gray
A gray coat with white marks splattered throughout it.
Paint
These are usually a black or brown coat with white patches spread throughout it. The same idea as a Pinto.
