Original Horse Breeds -Light Breed
Arabian Desert Horse, Barb of North Africa and Spanish Horse
American Saddlebred -Light Breed
Chestnut and Bay Colors, 15 to 16 hands
Usually compete in 3 classes
1. Light Harness- Paces are the walk and animated trot
2. Three-gaited saddler- Perform walk, trot, canter, and “slow gait”

Uses: Show, Endurance, Trail Riding, Racing

Usually Gray, 15 to 15.2 Hands

Very Strong
Uses: Endurance, Dressage and Buggy
Quarter Horse -Light Breed
Chestnut or any solid color: 14.3 to 16 hands tall

Standardbred -Light Breed
Bay Color, 15 to 16 Hands
Uses: Trotters, Pacers, Amish Buggy Horses
Thoroughbred -Light Breed
Chestnut, Bay or Brown colors, 15.2 to 17.2 Hands
Very Powerful horse, big legs
Uses: Racing, dressage, polo, hunters, jumpers, steeple chase
Appaloosa -Light Breed
6 Color Patterns, 14.2 to 16 hands -Leopard- Dark spots on white background -Snowflake- Light spots on dark background -Spotted Blanket- Spots on loins and quarters only -Marble -Frost -White Blanket- White quarters and loin USUALLY ROAN
Paint -Light Breed
14 to 15.2 hands
Piebald- Broken patches of black and white
Skewbald- White and any other coat but black
Overo- White does not cross back
Tobiano- White crosses back

Usually black but can be other dark colors, 17 to 18 hands, one of largest in the world
Small amounts of white on legs and head
