Er steoridehormoner - f.eks. østrogen, testestoron og tyroksinhormoner. Produseres kun ved behov. Passerer cellemembranen fritt. Transporteres bundes til transportproteiner. Bindes til reseptor inne i målcellen. Ofte langsom cellerespons - f.eks. å komme i stemmeskiftet.
