Hormones - Pancreas Flashcards
1
Q
Glucagon
A
- Secreted from alpha (A) cells
- Targets the liver
- Glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis (increasing glucose levels)
2
Q
Insulin
A
- Secreted by beta (B) cells
- Target tissue - Diffuse, but mostly liver, fat, and muscle
- Glycogenesis (increases glycogen levels); increases fatty acid
synthesis; increases glucose and amino acid uptake by tissues
3
Q
Somatostatin
(GHIH)
A
- Secreted by delta (D) cells
- Targets the pancreas and GI tract
- Inhibits insulin and glucagon secretion; slows absorption of
nutrients in GI tract
4
Q
Pancreatic
Polypeptide
A
- Secreted by F cells
- Targets the pancreas and gallbladder
- Inhibits secretion of somatostatin and digestive enzymes in
pancreas; inhibits gallbladder contraction
5
Q
Grehlin
A
- Secreted by epsilon (E) cells
- Targets the brain
- Stimulates hunger
