Hormones Of GIT Flashcards
CCK
Secreted when chyme (especially when it is high in lipids no partially digested proteins) enters duodenum
In pancreas - accelerates production and secretion of digestive enzymes
Causes relaxation of hepatopancreatic sphincter & contraction of the gallbladder - ejection of bile and and pancreatic juice into the duodenum
Inhibits gastric activity and emptying
Affects CNS - reduces sensation of hunger
GIP
Secreted when fats and carbohydrates (especially glucose) enter small intestine
Inhibits gastric activity
Stimulates insulin release
Stimulates duodenal gland activity
Stimulates lipid synthesis in adipose tissue
Increases glucose use by skeletal muscles
VIP
Stimulates secretion of intestinal glands
Dilates regional capillaries
Inhibits acid production
Secretin
Released from enteroendocrine cells
Released when chyme enters duodenum
Stimulates secretion of bile (by liver)
Stimulates secretion of buffers (by pancreas)
Reduces gastric motility and secretory rates
Enterocrinin
Stimulates mucin production by submucosal glands
Somatostatin
D cells
Inhibits contractions of stomach
Gastrin
G cells Duodenum and stomach Exposed to large quantities of incompletely digested proteins Increases stomach motility Stimulates production of gastric acid enzymes Stimulates secretion of HCl Stimulates growth of mucosal cells Stimulates insulin secretion
