Hormones and Tropic Response Flashcards
What is phototropism?
Plant turning towards or away from light
What is gravitropism?
Plant growing with or against gravity
Positive gravitropism?
Roots grow toward gravity
Negative gravitropism?
Shoots grow away from gravity
What is thigmotropism?
Opens or closes based on touch (animal or person touching it)
What happens to plants when they get red light?
Elongation and growth of tissue, germination, circadian rhythm
What happens to plants when they get blue light?
Polar cell growth, chloroplast movement
What happens to plants when they get both red and blue light?
Seasonal responses and flowering, stoma and gas exchange
What happens with an open stoma?
Phot 1 and phot 2 absorb the blue light, PHYTB absorbs the red light, K pumped in
What happens with stoma closed?
no light, no turgor pressure, and ABA signals from roots
What happens to a CAM stoma
Open at night, not controlled by light receptors
