Hormone
They are chemical substances that act like messengers in the body. e.g- testosterone
Gland
An organ in the body, which secretes particular chemical substances for use in the body. e.g- pituitary.
Endocrine System
The endocrine system is a collection or group of glands that produce hormones, these hormone regulate the metabolism, growth and development.
Target cell
A cell which receives hormones. e.g- the kidneys or liver.
Bloodstream
The blood circulating through the body of a human or animal.
Feedback loop
A situation where part of the output is used in the input.
Homeostasis
The bodies ability to maintain at a constant level. e.g. Temperature
Chemical messenger
A chemical messenger is any compound that serves to transmit a message. e.g. Nerves
Hypothalamus
Is a section of the brain that is responsible for many of the bodies hormones. e.g. Adrenaline
Secretion
Refers to the cellular release of substances to the external environment of the cell.
Diabetes
A condition where the body cannot produce enough insulin.
Pancreas
Is a gland that helps with the digestive system
Insulin
A hormone that is released to decrease the blood sugar levels.
Glucagon
A hormone that is released to increase the blood sugar levels.
