Insulin
Produced in pancreas
Involved in controlling blood sugars
When eating your blood sugar spikes
Helps cells to absorb glucose consumed during a meal
Adrenaline
Produced by adrenal glands in the kidneys
‘ fight or flight ‘ response
In a stressful situation adrenaline increases heart rate, breathing rate and amount of glucose in body delivered to muscles
Growth Hormone
Pituitary gland in the brain
Responsible for growth of tissues like bones and muscles
Works by stimulating Cell to divide
Thyroid gland
Found in neck and produces chemical called thyroxine
Increases + regulated basal and metabolic rate
Improves oxygen uptake
Regulates growth, development, body temp
Testosterone
Secreted by the testes
Responsible for development of male characteristics during puberty e.g hair growth
Progesterone
‘ pregnancy hormone ‘
Produced in ovaries, adrenal glands in the kidneys and the placenta
Keeps the interior lining in tact
Helps develop the foetus
What monitors blood glucose levels?
The Pancreas
