Human Growth Hormone (HGH)
Responsible for bone and muscle growth. Produced in pituitary gland
Adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH)
Responsible for production of Cortisol. Produced in the pituitary gland, acts on the adrenal cortex.
Thyroxine (Thyroid hormone)
Responsible for controlling how much energy is used in our body. Produced in the thyroid gland, acts on liver and kidneys.
Luteinizing Hormone (LH)
Responsible for sexual development and functioning in males and females. Produced in the pituitary gland and controls women’s menstrual cycles, and releases their eggs, (known as ovulation) and for men it stimulates testosterone release.
Menstrual Cycle
Caused by the release of oestrogen from a female’s brain. Commonly known as a period, it is a 28 day cycle from the shedding and bleeding of the walls to ovulation.
First 5 days of menstruation cycle
Menstruation stage: Walls and unfertilised eggs bleed out
8 day stage after the Menstruation stage in the menstruation cycle
Follicular stage: The eggs are maturing in the ovaries
Days after the Follicular stage in the menstruation cycle
Ovulation phase: Eggs are released from ovaries through fallopian tubes (most fertile)
Last 13 days of menstrual cycle
Luteal phase: Eggs are waiting to be fertilised by sperm in the uterus
