Hormone 3 Flashcards
What are the 2 types of hormones the hypothalamus secretes?
Releasing and inhibitory hormones.
Where do the hypothalamus’s hormones target?
The anterior pituitary gland.
What are the 2 parts of the master pituitary gland?
The anterior and posterior pituitary glands.
If the posterior pituitary gland is for storage, what is the anterior gland for?
To produce and store hormones.
What are 2 examples of growth hormone (G.H.)
- Somatotrophin
- Prolactin
What is the effect of Somatotrophin?
This GH effects rate of protein synthesis.
What is the effect of prolactin?
This GH stimulates milk production
What is the effect of corticotrophin (ACTH)?
This hormone targets the adrenal cortex to release glucocorticoids.
What is the effect of thyrotrophin?
This hormone targets the thyroid to release thyroxine.
What are the effects of Gonado Trophic hormones?
This hormone targets the gonads luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH)
What 5 hormones are made and stored in the anterior pituitary gland?
- Somatotrophin (GH)
- Prolactin (GH)
- Corticotrophin (ACTH)
- Thyrotropin (TSH)
- Gonado Trophic Hormones
What 2 hormones are stored in posterior pituitary gland?
- Vasopressin
- Oxytocin
Give an example of an ADH or
Anti Diuretic Hormone.
Vasopressin
What does ADH target?
The kidneys and arterioles
What is the effect of ADH?
Controls how much water is absorbed by the nephron. Water retention and vasoconstriction.
