Hookes law Flashcards
What is Hookes law?
The extension of an elastic object is directly proportional to the force appllied, up to the limit of proportionality
What is the limit of proportionality?
The point beyond which the relationship between force and extension are no longer directly proportional
What does a hookes law graph look like?
A line that goes through the origin, that starts to level off after reaching the limit of proportionality
What is elastic behaviour?
The ability of material to recover its original shape after the forces causing the deformation have been removed
What is elastic deformation?
When the object does return to its original shape after the deforming forces are removed
What is inelastic deformation?
Is when the object does not return to its orginal shape after the deforming forces are removed
