Hooke's Law, What is it Flashcards
What is Hooke’s Law
Hooke’s Law is the force that is required to stretch an elastic object such as a metal spring.
All equations
1/2 x sc. x e^2
Work done = force x distance
What is elastic
Elastic is when you stretch a certain object and it returns to its original shape.
What is plastic (inelastic)
Stretching a object and it forms a new shape and doesn’t change back to its original shape.
What is a scalar quantity
A scalar quantity is a quantity that just requires magnitude.
What is a vector quantity
A vector quantity is a quantity that requires magnitude and direction.
What is a contact force
A contact force is when an object is moved by being touched by a human or another object.
What is a non-contact force
A non-contact force is when an object either moves on it’s own or is moved with nobody in contact with it.
What are the 3 main types of forces
Push, Pull, Twist
When you travel from the earth to the moon is your mass the same?
Yes the mass is the same as it stays the same it is the weight that changes.
What was the scientist name who came up with hooke’s law?
Robert Hooke
An example of a contact force?
Friction
Air resistance
Tension
An example of a non-contact force?
Gravity
Magnets
Electric
What is Terminal Velocity?
The maximum speed objects reach
when falling. When weight = resistive
forces
What is displacement?
A vector quantity that measures how far
out of place an object is from A to B
