Plot
sequence of events in a work of literature
Exposition
Background information on the setting and characters at the start of a story
Rising Action
a series of events leading up to the climax (we are introduced to the conflicts of the story and the complications that occur)
Conflict
The main problem in the reading (A struggle between two opposing forces) →Internal - Character-vs-self, man-vs-society External - man-vs-nature, man-vs-man
Climax
The turning point and the most important part of the story (highest point of interest or suspense in a story)
Denouement
The final outcome of the conflict (the resolution of the story)
Protagonist
The main or most prominent character
Antagonist
The opposing character, or someone/something holding the protagonist back
Setting
Where the story takes place (time and place of action)
Falling Action
The tying of loose ends, the conflict beings to be resolved
Mood
The atmosphere of a story
Point of View
The narrator’s position in relation to a story
Characterization
The character’s description of personality, point of view, thoughts, and actions (the development of personality in a character)
Flat Character
They are two-dimensional and don’t change throughout the course of a story, relatively uncomplicated
Round Character
They change, grow, and undergo development throughout the literature
