Homework types - examples and rationale

A
  • -Experiment designed by therapist
  • A possible experiment in they choose
  • Based on what the client is already doing, thinking, feeling that is already moving them towards goal (exceptions)
  • -Homework designed by client
  • Usually familiar
  • Usually more of what has already worked (previous solution) or something they really want
  • Reduces natural tendency (protective process vs resistance) to resist outside intervention
  • Greater likelihood of success

  • Respecting & joining with the client, forming working relationship
  • Collect complaints (problem).
  • Rank complaints
  • Discuss exceptions.
  • Structure:
  • –Miracle question
  • –Exceptions/pre-session change
  • –Identify goals
  • –Scales (situation now, confidence)
  • –Compliments, summary
  • –Formula First Session task (FFST) – “Between now & next time we meet, I would like you to observe, so that you can describe to me next time, what happens in your (family, life, relationship,) that you want to continue to have happen.”
