HomeWork 3 Flashcards
Law of conservation mass
Matter is neither created nor destroyed(mass of reactants = mass of product)
Atomic Theory (1)
each element is made of tiny indestructible particles called atoms
Atomic theory(2)
All atoms from the same element have the same mass and properties that distinguish them from atoms of other elements.
Atomic Theory (3)
Atoms from one element differ properties from atoms of all other elements
Atomic Theory(4)
Atoms combine in simple, whole_number ratios to from compounds
Atomic Theory(5)
Atoms of one Element cannot change into atoms from another element. In chemical reactions, atoms change the way they are bond together with other atoms from a new substance
Law Of Definit proportions
All samples of a given compound have the same proportions of the constituent elements.
Subatomic Particles
Protons,Neutrons and electrons in atoms
Isotopes
atoms with the same number of protons but different number of neutrons
Atomic Mass Unit
Common unit: express Atomic masses
Define Neutral Matter
(no charge) has the same number of protons as it has electrons
Protons
Positively charged particles found within the nucleus
Neutrons
Neutral particles within the nucleus
Atomic number
the number of protons in an atoms nucleus. this defines the element
Natural abundance
the percentage of each isotope found in a sample of a given element
