What is homeostasis?
The ability to maintain a stable internal environment within organism, despite the external environment
What is positive feedback?
Positive feedback is the response to an event to increase likelihood of the event to continue
What is negative feedback?
Negative feedback is a response to a stimulus that keeps a variable close to a set range
What does endothermic mean?
Warm-blooded
What does ectothermic mean?
Cold-blooded
What is thermoregulation?
The way your body keep it temperature steady at around 37°c or 98.6°f, no matter how cold or hot it is outside
What is the hypothalamus?
A part of your brain that acts as a thermostat
What are the two types of feedback?
Negative and positive feedback
What are the conditions that need to be maintained?
Body temperature
Water balance
Blood sugar levels
Blood pH
What happens when the body is too warm?
Hairs lay flat
Sweat produced
Blood vessels widen
What happens when the body is too cold?
Hairs stand up
Muscles shiver
Blood vessels contract
Sweat glands stop producing sweat
