Homeostasis- kidney Flashcards
Define osmoregulation
Control of the blood water potential
Describe the overall role of the kidney
Produce urine
Removes urea, excess salt and excess water from the body
Describe what happens in the renal capsule (glomerulus and Bowman’s capsule)
Ultrafiltration
Blood under high hydrostatic pressure (created by left ventricle) enters glomerulus
Small molecules are forced out of blood and into the Bowman’s capsule
Label the structures A-D
A = Glomerulus
B= Bowman’s capsule
C = Afferent arteriole
D = Efferent arteriole
Name 5 molecules found in the glomerular filtrate
Water
Urea
Salt
Glucose
Amino acids
Fatty acids
Glycerol
Mineral ions
Name three structures that remain in the blood during ultrafiltration
Red blood cells
White blood cells
Platelets
Large proteins
Name structures A-C
A = Bowman’s capsule
B = Distal convoluted tubule
C = Collecting duct
Name structures A-C
A = Glomerulus
B = Proximal convoluted tubule
C = Loop of Henle
