homeostasis Flashcards
what is homeostasis
term used to describe the maintenance of a constant internal environment
how does the nervous system work in homeostasis
stimuli in the internal or external observation are detected by nerve receptors. impulses are sent through the central nervous system. impulses are carried to effectors carry out responses
what does the hormonal system do in homeostasis
hormones get released into the bloodstream and transported throughout the body. Target issues related to regulating cell activity
what does the respiratory system do in homeostasis
oxygen is diffused from the air into long and then into the capillaries carried to all cells. carbon dioxide transferred out of cells carried to lungs from alveoli out of the lungs
what does the circulatory system do in homeostasis
blood distributed warmth, hormones and O2 and nutrients to cells to remove wastes
what does the digestion system do in homeostasis
product of digestion are absorbed into the blood and lymph vessels in the walls of the intestine where they are supplied to other areas of the body.
what does the excretory system do in homeostasis
nitrogenous waste (urea) excess water and salt is execrated from the body in the form of urine
what does the integumentary system do in homeostasis
evaporation of sweat from the surface helps in regulation of temperature. skin is a barrier between internal and external environment
