Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
Definition of homeostasis
A
It is the maintenance of a constant internal environment
2
Q
Changes in the human body when temp increases
A
- Dilation of arterioles in the skin+constriction of shunt vessels allow more blood to flow through the blood capillaries in the skin—> allowing more heat to be lost through the skin by radiation, conduction and convection
- Sweat glands become more active, resulting in an increased production of sweat—> more latent heat of vaporisation as more water vapour evaporated from the skin.
- Decreased metabolic rate.
