Homeostasis Flashcards
Homeostasis
Maintaining stable environment or conditions; has 2 control systems
Feedback system
Involves receptors, control center, and effector organs; 2 types of feedback systems
Receptors (sensors)
Monitor specific condition and sends information to control center
Control center (integrator)
Integrates information and makes a decision, sends information to effector organs
Effector organs
Increase or decrease activity to keep things in normal ranges. Then contacts the receptors to maintain feedback loop
Centered system
Involves nervous and endocrine systems
Negative feedback system
Reversed deviation from normal, keeps bad things from happening by returning it to a regular range
Positive feedback
Intensifies the deviation, does not return it to normal; giving birth
