9
Q

Reaction time test:

A
  1. Place index finger and thumb under a ruler
  2. Drop ruler randomly and person will grab to their reaction time
  3. The smaller the measurement the faster the reaction time (vise versa)
  4. Repeat with different stimuli to see if it can affect someone’s reaction time

16
Q

Pituitary gland

A

‘Main gland’ - in the brain
Produces hormones that tell other glands to secretate their hormones

17
Q

Glands in the body

A

Thyroid gland = control temp, heart rate, metabolism
Pancrease = produces insulin
Ovaries = female, eggs
Testis = male, sperm
Adrenal gland = produces Adrenalin

18
Q

What is diabetes?

A

When someone’s pancrease doesn’t produces enough (or no) insulin.

19
Q

What happens when blood sugar is too high?

A

converts glucose into glycogen that stores the energy rather than using it, and using it later

20
Q

FSH

A

Follicle stimulating hormone
Made in Pituitary gland that then passes to ovaries to produce oestrogen

21
Q

What is oestrogen?

A

Chemical that allows eggs to mature

22
Q

LH

A

Lutenising hormone
Inhibits FSH which stimulates egg release

23
Q

What does progesterone do?

A

inhibits FSH and LH

24
Q

Menstrual cycle:

A

Uterus lining sheds —> Ovulation —> linking thickens
(Repeats)

25
Q

What is Thermoregulation?

A

regulation body temperature

26
Q

What happens if body temp is too high?

A

enzymes denature
Active site lowers

27
Q

How does the body regulate?

A

Sweating (to cool down)
Skin hairs (stand up - trapping air to keep warm)
Blood vessels widen (closer to skin realeaisng more heat - cooling down)

28
Q

Kidney controls?

A

Water levels
Removes urea

29
Q

Examples of contraception

A

Pill
Patch
Implant

30
Q

Fertility treatments

A

Artificial insamination
Impact egg treatment
Surrogacy
FSH/LH treatment
Egg donation
Ovary transplant

31
Q

What is phototropism?

A

plant stems growing towards light

32
Q

What is geotropism?

A

Plant roots growing towards ground

33
Q

What is Auxin?

A

plant hormone that promotes plant growth
Made in roots of plant
Can be used as a weed killer

34
Q

What doe Ethene do to plants?

A

helps ripen fruit

35
Q

What does berelines do for plants?

A

Promotes flowering / fruit size
