Homeostasis Flashcards
Homeostasis definiton
Mechanisms by which conditions of the tissue fluid is kept at a relatively constant level
Feedback
When effectors respond to the co-ordination centre and bring about a response that then changes the input
Negative feedback
Achieves homeostasis
Change in the level of an internal factor causes effectors to restore it to its original level
Example of negative feedback
Increase in body temp
Sweat and vasodilation
Heat lost from blood
Normal temp restored
Positive feedback
Not common
Increases original change detected by receptors
pH
Too high or too low — enzymes become denatured
Ionic and H bonds break
Shape of active site changes
No enzyme-substrate complexes
pH = -log10 [H+]
