Homeostasis Flashcards
The players of Homeostasis
- Sensor
- Integration Center
- Effector
ALL THREE PLAYERS MUST BE WORKING
What indicates illness
A deviation from homeostasis
Anatomy
deals with the STRUCTURE of the body and its parts
Comparative Physiology
Physiology of INVERTABRATES
Any physiology not related to human and compare it to human organs.
Physiology
Deals with the study of the FUNCTIONS of body and its parts
Homeostasis
Process used by organisms to maintain FAIRLY STABLE internal condition (environment)
Set Point
The target value for each condition
Pathophysiology
How physiological processes are altered in disease or injury
Antagonistic Effects
Homeostasis is often maintained by OPPOSING effectors that move conditions in opposite directions
Integrating Center
Notice deviating from set point then activate the effector
Autoregulation (Intrinsic)
When a cell, tissue, organ, organs system adjusts automatically in response to environmental change
ex: inflammation
Negative Feedback
Action of the effectors RETURNS condition to set-point
STABILIZING
Conditions
Body maintains homeostasis for body temp, concentration ions in your blood, heart rate, glucose levels and blood pressure
Sensor
Accurate information
Positive Feedback
Actions of the effector causes condition to deviate further from set-point
DESTABILIZING
