what is conscription?
conscription is when a person is enrolled for compulsory military service

Who was forced to join the army?
anyone single between 18-40 was forced to join the army
why wasn’t conscription initially necessary?
there were plenty of men who wanted to join the army
why did the number of people signing up drop?
once they began to realise the truth about the war and how dangerously chilling the war was, the number of men signing up continued to drop
why did people agree with conscription?
- it got people to fight in the war when the empire needed it
- it gave people an adventure
- helped the war effort which of course, ensured us the win
what are conscientious objectors?
they were someone who objected to military services based on morals or religious grounds
how many conscientious objectors were there in the UK?
around 16,000
