Jesus is brought before the Jewish leaders and the Roman governor Pilate. He is sentenced to death and is crucified
Describe what happens during the Good Friday liturgy
On Good Friday the church is bare. The Gospel is the passion and death of Jesus from St John’s Gospel. At the beginning of the liturgy, as a sign of sorrow, the priests prostrate themselves. The community commemorates the death of Jesus by venerating the cross. There is no Eucharistic prayer or consecration.
