What caused the Holocaust?
Anti-semitism (anti-Jewish) feeling, Nazi racial policy, Nazis blamed the Jews for the economic problems in Germany, Hitler’s dictatorship
What was the name of the laws introduced by the Nazis in 1935 that took away many Jewish rights.
Nuremberg Laws
What methods did the Nazis use to persecute the Jews?
Banned them from professions such as teaching or law; banned from school; seized their bank accounts; took away their citizenship; seized their properties and businesses; moved them to the ghettos; forced them to wear yellow stars; moved them to concentration camps; attacked them (e.g. Kristallnacht 1938).
What was the Final Solution?
The Nazis introduced the Final Solution in 1941 when they realised the numbers of Jews living in the newly occupied areas of Europe (e.g. 3.5 million Jews in Poland). Heinrich Himmler created the plan to exterminate the Jews with death squads and later death camps such as Auschwitz in Poland.
Give examples of Jewish resistance.
Non-violent resistance such as breaking out of the ghettos, sneaking food into the ghettos, escaping, helping others to escape, hiding, keeping diaries, trying to get messages to other countries.
Violent resistance such as attacking Nazis or organising uprisings like the the famous Warsaw Ghetto Uprising of August to October 1944.
