Concentration Camps
A place where large numbers of people are deliberately imprisoned in a relatively small area (with inadequate facilities), sometimes to provide forced labour or to await mass execution (usually by gassing)
Dehumanisation
The denial of humaneness to other people
Discrimination
The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people, usually on the grounds of race, age or gender
Eugenics
The science of improving a population by controlled breeding to increase the occurrence of desirable heritable characteristics
Euthanasia
The painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma
Extermination Camp
Camps designed and built by Nazi Germany during World War 2 to systematically kill millions, usually by gassing, although also mass executions and through extreme work under starvation conditions
Final Solution
The Nazi policy of exterminating European Jews (resulted in the murder of 6 million Jews)
Genocide
The deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a particular ethnic group or nation
Ghetto
Restricting a group to an isolated or segregated area

Liberation
Setting someone free from imprisonment, slavery or oppression
Nazi Party
A political group that ruled Germany between 1933 and 1945
Pogrom
An organized massacre of a particular ethnic group, in particular Jews in Russia or eastern Europe
Police State
A totalitarian state controlled by a political police force that secretly supervises the citizens activities
Prejudice
A preconceived opinion that is not based on reason or actual experience
Racism
The belief that all members of a race possess characteristics specific to that race, especially when distinguishing a race inferior or superior to another
Refugee
A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution or natural disaster
Resistance
A group of Jewish people who attempted armed resistance against the Nazis
