Stifling
Suffocating. Because there was no air conditioning in the rickety, crowded bus, it felt very stifiling, especially on hot days.

Extreme pain. When the boy fell off his bike and broke his wrist, he was in agony, but he tried to be brave.

Bold resistance. The child stuck his bottom lip out in defiance and told his mother that he was not sleepy and did not want to take a nap.

Squirming,as if in pain. After my sister accidentally slammed her finger in the car door, she lay on the ground crying and writhing around in pain.
