Holding Executive To Account Flashcards
1
Q
How does the executive/Pm dominate the legislation/Lords
A
- The Pm selects the lords, therefore he can select all conservative lords
- They have the Salisbury convention that took place after WW2 (if legislation is in manifesto the lords won’t question it)
- Lords don’t deal with any bills that deal with taxation or money
- The parliament act 1949 allowed the lords to only delay bills for a year eg: reduced hunting act bill 2004
- The House of Lords act in 1999 got rid of hereditary peers except the 92 in the weatherill amendment
