Mechanical failure of hoist components or rescue equipment
Dangers Associated with Hoist Ops (cont.)
Hoist procedure or technique failure
Litter Hoist Methods
tag line / statice extraction litter procedure
Litter Hoist Methods (cont)
Dynamic Extraction Litter Procedure: high training requirement; reduces risk for other EPs
Key elements of dynamic extraction:
Cable length
available wind
dynamic departures
rate and timing of cable up
minimum cable length to initiate dynamic hoist extraction (UH72)
100 feet
alt can be reduced by 25’ when winds are greater than 10kts
min. cable length must be increased by obstacle height
standard target airspeed to fly away is:
30kts *key is smooth/steady acceleration to avoid oscillation (announce passing through ETL)
“Clear of Obstacles” =
load is above obstacles , not for aicraft movement
“Load is free” =
per HEAP, cable up in EP and recover load to aircraft
“Cleared for Forward Flight” =
*P is cleared to slow/smooth accel to 30kts fwd flt
“Free Hover” =
*P can relax hover while HO ops in Cabin, not for fwd flt
