Blade
the curved end of the stick, used to hit the puck
body/shaft
the main part of the stick, where the player places dominant hand
butt or end
the end knob of the stick, where the player places non- dominant hand
defenders
players who cannot go past the center line, thier responsibility is to keep the puck out of there end of the floor and away from the goal
center
this player is allowed to move the length of the floor and player leads offensive play
wings
offensive players, left and right wing work with center to try and score goals
goalie
padded player that attempts to block all shots on the goal, they can stop the puck with hands, feet or their stick
centering the puck
to pass the puck across the front of the goal
clearing the puck
getting rid of the puck out of your zone to prevent the opponent from scoring
goal
worth 1 point puck goes between the goal posts and crosses over the goal line. A puck cannot be kicked or thrown into the goal.
goal crease
a semi-circular area in front of the goal, denotes the playing area of the goalie
hat trick
3 goals scored by 1 player in a single game
face - off
method of starting play, the official drops the puck between the sticks of the opposing players
assist
a pass from a teammate that lead to a goal.
penalty
consequence given for fouls that are illegal (2 minute penalty box)
